If you use Stadia Maps as your map service, WP Store Locator needs a Stadia Maps API key. One key covers everything the plugin does with Stadia: the map itself, the address search that turns a search term into coordinates, the address autocomplete, and driving directions.
Stadia Maps is a paid service for commercial sites. Read the Costs section before you build your locator on it.
Create the key
- Sign up at client.stadiamaps.com, or sign in if you already have an account.
- In the client dashboard, click on Create a Property. If you already have an account with an existing property, click on Manage Properties & Authentication first to reach this option. Set the property type to WP Store Locator and click on Create. This will take you back to the dashboard page.
- Scroll down to Authentication Configuration, and click on ‘Add Domain’. Here provide the url of your website and click on ‘Save Domain’.
- Next click on ‘Add API Key’ and copy the provided key.

Add the key to WP Store Locator
- Go to WP Store Locator > Settings > API.
- Make sure Stadia Maps is selected as the map service.
- Paste the key into the API key field.
- Click Show response next to Validate API key.

WP Store Locator tests the token against the Stadia API and tells you straight away whether it works. Save the settings once it validates.
You’ll also be asked for the token during the setup wizard, if you pick Stadia there.
EU endpoints and GDPR
Stadia Maps offers European endpoints, which you can enable in WP Store Locator via Settings > API > Use EU endpoints.
![]()
Turn it on and every request the plugin makes — map tiles, geocoding, search and routing — goes to Stadia’s EU servers instead of the default ones, so the data stays inside the European Union.
Costs
New accounts get a 14-day trial of Stadia Maps Professional, with no credit card required. After the trial your account drops to Stadia’s free plan.
That free plan does not permit commercial use. It allows 200,000 credits a month, but only for non-commercial projects. A store locator for a business is commercial use, so in practice you’ll need to move to a paid plan — and add a card — once the trial ends. Paid plans start at $20 a month at the time of writing.
